Two honorary officers in Hastings-on-Hudson are helping the chief of police keep things running smoothly.

Police Chief David Dosin believes the best way to build trust is through connection and not through sirens or citations.

Libby and Mia, his two loyal dogs, are his partners in that mission.

Ice cream and friendly faces replace flashing lights Sunday at “Cops and Cones” event in MacEachron Park.

“People are often surprised by the friendliness,” Dosin said. “We want them to know we’re here for them.”

Chief Dosin’s four-legged ambassadors help turn everyday encounters into moments of community, whether greeting residents downtown or stopping by local shops.

It’s not just about enforcing the law for Dosin -- it’s about enjoying the village he serves, one handshake — and one tail wag — at a time.
