The Bigelow Tea Community Challenge is this Sunday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club in Southport.
It has raised over $2.7 million for Connecticut Charities Since 1987.
These organizations provide critical services including education, housing, food assistance, crisis counseling, after-school programs, and recreational activities for the region's most vulnerable populations.
A huge event that supports almost two dozen state nonprofits is celebrating its 38th year this weekend.
The Bigelow Tea Community Challenge is this Sunday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club in Southport.
People will be running and walking on Sunday to raise money for people in need.
"We try to pick organizations that the funds we give them actually really make an impact to their budget and we have to stay with them year after year because they need that money," said Cindi Bigelow, President and CEO of Bigelow Tea headquartered in Fairfield.
Bigelow says the event has come a long way from the 50 people that first participated.
"And when it started never could I have imagined that we'd have almost a thousand people here. The money that we've raised and had such an impact on the community. It's a very special day," said Bigelow.
The event has raised over $2.7 Million for Connecticut Charities Since 1987 and hopes to add about $170,000 this year.
The 23 organizations it helps provide critical services including education, housing, food assistance, crisis counseling, after-school programs, and recreational activities for the region's most vulnerable populations.
"It's a lot planning. We have a committee of about 20 people that work almost all year. Ten months a year they are planning this," said Bigelow.
This family-friendly event features a 5K run, 3K walk, kids' fun run, plus virtual options for all ages.
It's happening rain or shine Sunday.
