A 33-year-old man is recovering after police said he was shot on Sunday afternoon in Morrisania.
It happened shortly after 12 p.m. on Washington Avenue near East 169th Street, which is located near the Morris NYCHA Houses and several playgrounds.
Police said the victim was shot in the back. He was taken to Lincoln Hospital where he was in stable condition as of Sunday night.
A News 12 crew on scene counted at least five evidence markers, including bullet holes in two car windshields.
It was not immediately unclear what led to the shooting.
Residents said this was a normal scene in their neighborhood.
“That’s dangerous,” said Yvette Vega, of Morrisania. “I walk around all the time with my kids and imagine if I was coming to the store at that time. Anything could’ve happened to my kids as well.”
“No surprise because I hear the cops and ambulances all day, all night,” said Antoinette Douglas, of Morrisania. “It’s ridiculous.”
As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made.
Police said they’re searching for a man in his 20s who was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue shorts. Officials said that man took off on East 169th Street towards Third Avenue.
