Over 27,000 runners laced up and hit the road Sunday morning for the New York Road Runners United Airlines NYC Half Marathon.
The event, spanning 13.1 miles, saw runners starting near the Brooklyn Museum in Prospect Heights, crossing up through Eastern Parkway and Downtown Brooklyn and over the Brooklyn Bridge and into Times Square before ending in Central Park.
Runners, including a woman honored for participating in her 125th half marathon, were in good spirits Sunday morning, despite fog and rain causing a dip in visibility and temperature.
"13.1 miles is a long time, but I'm super excited to run on the Brooklyn Bridge, have my friends with me and just the environment of the running community," said attendee Jenna Moore.
In addition to the adult race, 1,500 kids participated in free dashes and races as part of the Times Square Kids Run, one of more than 20 free Rising New York Road Runners youth events the nonprofit hosts during the year.
