ROAD TRIP - US OPEN FAN WEEK

Less than a week away from the US open kicking off here at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. Now, I know the courts look empty now, but starting on Sunday, they're going to be packed with people coming for activities, the qualifiers and fan week from August 19th to the 25th, tennis stars from around the world will hit these courts for their chance to win the largest person in tennis history and you can get piece of the action for fan. We used to be the best kept secret in tennis, but it is no longer a secret. It's our fun filled interactive tennis festival and it's essentially the first of our three week event, but it's the most accessible way to get exposed to the US open and exposed to the sport of tennis. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to be here to get a glimpse of the best players on the practicing their tennis skills. There is no other place where we can get this up close and personal to see some of the biggest stars in tennis like Coco Golf, Novak Djokovic as they're getting ready for the biggest championship on the grandest stage and that's all for free. But we also have some great ticketed events where you can see some exciting exhibition matches and tournaments where some of the get in prices are $30 including us. Open Mix Madness presented by IG Hotels and Resorts. Stars of the Open, presented by Chase and then a fabulous food festival flavors of the open presented by the Tequila. Well, 38 wineries throughout the state are participating in the passport to Connecticut farm wineries. Vineyards provide a beautiful backdrop for a day of tastings and relaxation. And this week's road trip, close to home news, 12 photojournalist, Laurie Goliath takes us to the Connecticut wine trail. Connecticut is a beautiful state and the farm wineries are in beautiful destinations. Welcome to Hopkins Vineyard in Lisha County in the town of Warren in 1979 when we filed for the Connecticut Farm winery permit. Um We were one of the very first for us. We're, we're mostly a state grown. So we're growing all all of our uh grapes here on the property and that means a lot to us. We uh participate in the passport program. It introduces you to agriculture in Connecticut in a beautiful way with great wines. The passport gets stamped here at Hopkins Vineyard. We offer wine flights. We do cheese platters. We have a lovely outdoor picnic area that's tented. This is our West win. It's a semi sweet white. I would compare this to a German Riesling. We are at Walker Road vineyards in Woodbury, Connecticut. This is our rose. It's called Rosalie. Rosalie is my wife's mother. Very popular. A refreshing rose and all of our wines have some of our grapes. Some of them are exclusively our grapes. We have an outside deck, a covered deck, very popular or you can sit out in the vineyard. There are several places uh where you can just go out and sit in the vineyard and we encourage you to go walk into the vineyard too. So we have a very loyal following. We always get new people. The passport brings in new people. It means a lot to us to get people out, especially in our rural but lovely area. And you can pick up a passport at any participating winery or you can download the app. 12 or more stamps will enter you into the prize drawing for more than 100 prizes. Hell's Kitchen, which was produced and inspired by Alicia Keys. Rock out with stereophonic. It's not a musical but a play with music set in a 1976 recording studio. Regardless of what you see, there's something for everyone on Broadway.

You inside the Bartow Pell Mansion Museum News twelve's Ellie Murro takes us inside the mansion from the past and has more on why this hidden gem is so unique. Let's take a road trip back in time. The 18 hundreds to be exact. We are at the Bartow Pell Mansion Museum. The Bartow Pell Mansion was built back in 1842. The mansion sits on 200 acres of land in Pelham Bay Park surrounded by historically preserved artifacts, but there's so much more behind what catches the eye. Once visitors walk through the front door, once you walk into the house, it's a grand entrance hall. The ceilings are 13 ft high. It was meant to impress and inside is done in the Greek revival style with dental moldings with beautiful elements that from the outside brought inside with animal feet, cloth feet um at the base of a lot of the furniture and the fireplaces, school programs and resources at the museum also offers insight on what life was like back then and they learn about how life was different then and now what, what was life techno technologically? There was no TV. What did Children do. So we talk about that and even when Children and you can't forget about the carriage house. So the Bartos would have had more than one of these carriage houses and certainly more than one of these carriages because they were a family of nine with views unmatched to accompany an aesthetically pleasing meal. You can even bring your lunch and eat at one of the beautiful cafe tables on the pebble court, a hidden gem right here in the Bronx at the Bartow Pell Mansion Museum, Murillo News 12, the Bronx.

It is a spot in Nassau County that has fun for the entire family and all year round, our Shannon Lanier takes us to Empire Adventure Park in this week's road trip close to home. When you're looking for an indoor activity that the whole family can't enjoy. Come on over to Westbury, New York for a one stop shop of endless fun Empire Adventure Park is the newest interactive attraction at the old Source mall. So they opened their doors to us and a few friends for an exclusive sneak peek instead of going to a place where you can just play laser tag or just jump on trampolines or just play a few games. We wanted to create a facility where you can do this all under one roof. Fans just have regular trampolines here. They have all different kinds like dodgeball and interactive games too. The laser tag game is eight minutes. So that gives me plenty of time to beat my family or we'll just play over and over again. Of course, they have video games, but they take it to the next level by going virtual watch out. This is all reality called hyper deck. We were the first in New York to have this particular game. It's amazing. The floor moves three degrees in either direction. The wind comes from all four walls. The heat comes from the ceiling. You actually feel like you're flying when you play this game. Did you feel the heat and the fun doesn't stop there? And of course, we gotta try the sweep break. The glide rail is awesome. I really love obstacle courses, guys. I'm a name Jock. There are enough activities at Empire Adventure to keep you and the kids busy all day. Can you please stay longer? No, we have to head to our next road trip. Oh.

The cue, the curiosity. The Mid Hudson Discovery Museum in Poughkeepsie is a place where kids can wonder, think, learn and grow the entire spectrum of science. We're trying to relate and make Children feel comfortable with. Teach them uh sort of to pursue their curiosity. This museum reveals so much to Children about the natural world, whether it's gravity or the forces of wind and nature that makes the world go round and at exhibits like these, the basics of aerodynamics become the wind in their sails. I hope that it opens her mind and she becomes more curious about the world around her, which is the purpose of a place like this. Children are learning how to experiment, adjust and achieve that's hands on learning and they learn how to fail and they learn what success can feel like. The excitement of success is contagious. Even the youngest scientists can get in on the power of play. A dynamic early learning space can help them find tune their motor skills. And the imaginative village known as River Town allows the little ones to play a different role for a day from your neighborhood chef to running errands, grabbing groceries and even the local hero who knew I could be so fun to see news.
