Well, we are taking a summer adventure in this week's road trip close to home who doesn't love an adventure news. Nikita Ramos is showing us a new location to explore with Hudson River recreation. Welcome to where the waters are calm, birds are home and you are floating into Golden Hour. It's a relaxing state. It's the adventure. You're not thinking about anything else. You're just enjoying being out here watching a beautiful sunset. It's a dreamscape setting that you can experience. Thanks to Hudson River recreation. The local business offers different ways to explore our waters on kayak paddle board and more. And now there's a new area to soak in tours and rentals just started here at Playland Lake this season and this offers an experience like no other. You'll paddle through the natural beauty of the Edith Reed wildlife sanctuary. It's a migratory flyway for many different birds and the protected home to countless wildlife. This is brackish water also which comes in from the Sound. So it's partially saltwater, partially fresh water so that sustains a special kind of ecosystem that helps with the nature sanctuary behind it, revitalize the Long Island Sound and it's ok. If you're not familiar with these types of water sports, your guide will lead you along this calm lake which can really make this feel like a breeze for beginners with the nice lake environment and giving you that shallow body water where especially with the sun kind of coming down to the golden hour, whether you're spending time on your own or joining a tour, every ride will bring an unmatched experience right into nature at a special time of the year. Gears now, I'm sure you've had an ice cream cone, especially with these temperatures we've got going on. But have you ever had one with meatballs? A Bronx Deli going viral all over social media for what they are calling their Italian ice cream cone news travels. Marissa Santarelli took a trip to Morris Park to see what the hype is all about as summer heats up. Most people like to cool down with some ice cream. But this isn't your typical ice cream cone. It's going crazy. People are going crazy about it with over 9 million views. GNR Italian Deli on Williams Bridge Road is going viral over their newest creation. I call it the Italian ice cream cone owner, Carolina Defu tells me who's next. She just came up with this idea on a whim. It was busy that day and I didn't want to cut anything on the slices. So there was four meatballs that my brother made that day and I said I'll just make an Italian ice cream cone. It just, it was spur of the moment it wasn't planned. She says the social media frenzy has brought people from all over the world to try her cone. We had people from Australia yesterday, Alabama. A lot of people from Connecticut, Long Island, Boston. Just everywhere I asked the magic question. What's in? It is a nice seeded b stone that I cut in half and hollowed out the bread. These meatballs are so fresh, they're just so good. Just stuffing it in there. Put a lot of the sauce and the cheese so it soaks down to the bottom and get it on every piece of bread. You know, I had to try it. It may have been messy but wow. Was it delicious? I think it will become legendary. This family business tells me making authentic Italian food. Goes back generations with a line out the door. It's safe to say this Bronx staple deserves all of the attention. It's getting, you have to taste the meatballs. Nobody makes meatballs like Gnr Carolina says people come to GNR for the food but stay for the family. You need more places like this in Morris Park. Ok. Climb aboard and cruise between Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York on this fabulous trip where maritime history, legend and Lore take you to the lights in the sights of Long Island Sound in this week's road trip. Close to home news, 12 photojournalist, Laurie Goliath takes us to New London Harbor. Ok. We are at the New London ferry terminal in New London. Connecticut Cross on ferry offers three different types of lighthouse cruises. We could see three states of the Union. If you look off our stern, this region really lends itself to one of these types of cruises, especially with a high speed vessel like we're operating because they're so close to one another. We're moving pretty fast. These boats are nimble. They can turn on a dime and we can get up close and personal. You'll never get as close as you can without being on one of these vessels. That's Fort Trumbull with our expert narration we have on board. It really brings the whole cruise to life and it brings these maritime structures in the history and the lore that, that surround that uh it's a life. New London Harbor Light was close to the action during the war of 1812. But it's always an adventure and you never know what you're gonna see. If we get lucky. We might see the Eagle, we might see a submarine coming or going. This is Latimer Reef Lighthouse located about a mile north of Fisher's Island. Easternmost point. You can see most of these by land, but you can't see them as close as you can by boat. Our next lighthouse is uh very unique. Many of them are out free standing in the water. Um Somewhere along the shoreline. Race Rock light is a lighthouse on Race Rock Reef, marking the entrance to the Thames River in New London Harbor is one of the last lighthouses to be built in New England, the London Ledge lighthouse. I mean, the history of these lighthouses and why they were built local legend has it that the lighthouse is inhabited by a ghost named Ernie. It's a beautiful trip. I mean, it's very unique. So get your cameras, right? You got great light. It's a different perspective of seeing these lighthouses and be out on the water. Uh It's, it's a, it's a tremendous way to spend that afternoon.

If you love the outdoors, you're gonna love this one for this week's road trip. Close to home. Amanda Lee and photographer James Crow are hiking and taking in the views in Sussex County, grab your hiking shoes and your water. And this week's road trip close to home, we're hitting the trails that stoke state for. We're that Stoke State Forest in uh, northwestern New Jersey where, uh Sussex County, um, right along close to the Delaware River in the northwest corner here in New Jersey. We have camping. We have over 80 different, uh, single family campsites. We also have group sites that can host up to, uh, over 300 people. And we have a lot of hiking trails, over 60 miles of trails including 13 miles of the Appalachian trail which continues on down to Georgia and up to Maine. So we're at the office right now and we're going to take a ride. We're gonna go back out to 206. We're gonna go down the road a little bit and we're gonna follow Sunrise, Mount road up to the pavilion up here, uh, which is right along the Appalachian trail. The views are one of a kind. Yeah, I mean, it's a different view every, you know, half mile or mile. Wow. Look at that. Well, we started in Georgia on February 24th and we're heading to Cato in Maine and it's just been, I mean, one experience after another. It's crazy how each day kinda poses a new challenge and you get to overcome it slowly but surely one step at a time, we'd recommend some of our, uh, shorter trails for, for newcomers who haven't done a lot of hiking before. Um, obviously, you know, the trails are all of different lengths. Some of them extend up to 17 miles in a, in a continuous loop is our longest trail right now. Um, and we're certainly looking to, to add some, some different trail segments in the near future and you can get more information on Stoke State Forest or other places to visit this weekend. Just tune in to road trip, close to home tonight. It's right there at the times on your screen only on these 12.
