Yonkers is moving beyond pothole repairs as summer roadwork gets underway.
The city's Department of Public Works crews began milling on Inwood Street, part of a $5 million resurfacing program expected to cover 50 roadway sections between now and September.
The city is spending $1 million more than last year on road work after a rough winter left many streets in need of more than patching.
DPW crews filled more than 3,000 potholes this spring, but some damaged roads now require full milling and repaving.
Tom Drago, with Yonkers DPW, says crews are cutting up long sections of damaged streets, then repaving them to prevent recurring pothole problems.
“It’s nice when the homeowners come out and say, ‘thanks a lot,’” Drago said.
News 12 will continue tracking roadwork across Yonkers during milling season.
