Yankees legend CC Sabathia is sharing an important message about heart health ahead of the retirement of his No. 52 jersey.

Sabathia joined Yankees manager Aaron Boone and the Playing with Heart campaign at Yankee Stadium to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and the importance of knowing your cholesterol numbers.

Sabathia has spoken publicly about his own heart health and says cardiovascular problems can happen even when you feel healthy.

“You have no idea what’s going on internally. You may feel fine,” Sabathia said. “But have no idea what your cholesterol number is and how close you are to having that plaque buildup and having a blockage.”

For Sabathia and Boone, it's a message that hits close to home.

Boone was born with a health condition that required heart surgery when he was 13, and later required a pacemaker.

Sabathia was on the mound for the Bronx Bombers when he realized simple activities would leave him quickly fatigued. He later underwent heart surgery in 2018.

Sabathia and Boone are encouraging people to know their LDL-C, often called “bad” cholesterol, and talk with their healthcare providers about their heart health.

Sabathia’s No. 52 will be retired by the Yankees as part of a Monument Park ceremony at Yankee Stadium.
