For five years, the Wyandanch girls varsity soccer team practiced, played and lost.
In fact, they lost every game. But on Oct. 6, 2026 that changed.
The girls beat Copiague 3-1.
Junior Kaylee Ibarra scored all three goals. She said that her team was constantly being judged by others. People would make fun of them for never winning a game.
It was comments like that that made Ibarra want to win even more. She said she felt like they had a chance at winning after she scored the first goal at the Oct. 6 home game, but she didn't let that thought consume her.
She told her teammates to pretend the game was still 0-0. It worked.
Senior Jocelyn Morocho, who never thought they would win and happily proved herself wrong, told News 12, "We didn't let anyone bring us down."
