Police are looking for a woman who allegedly left an infant girl at the 34th Street - Penn Station subway station.
Surveillance video captures the woman walking with what appears to be a baby, moments before police got the call.
This happened Monday just before 9:30 a.m.
"I'm calling it the miracle on 34th Street, maybe just a little earlier," said Demetrius Crichlow, MTA New York City Transit president.
Officials are praising the NYPD for its quick response to the anonymous tip. The baby is expected to be OK.
Many people were in shock that something like that could happen.
One commuter brought up the topic of reproductive rights, saying, "I think it's horrifying. And I think that's why it's so important for women to have the right to choose in the event that they do not want to have children."
Another person said he wants to see more law enforcement in the subway stations, saying, "There's nobody monitoring what's going on down here. The MTA is like its own world. They need more police down here to see what's going on."
Under New York state's Safe Haven Law, a parent can drop off their baby up to 30 days old at safe places like hospitals and police and fire stations without fear of prosecution. It is not confirmed if the woman in this case is protected under this law.
