Woman fatally struck by NJ Transit train in Orange
An NJ Transit train struck and fatally injured a woman early Friday morning at a train station in Essex County. NJ Transit officials told News 12 the incident happened around 1 a.m. at the Highland Avenue station in Orange. Train 442 left Gladstone just over an hour earlier at 11:53 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Hoboken Terminal at 1:22 a.m. on the Morris and Essex Line.​ NJ Transit says the train “struck and fatally injured a female trespasser.” The identity of the victim has not yet been released. “No injuries were reported to the eight customers or crew on board,” NJ Transit said. Train service on the Morris and Essex Line remains in operation, and New Jersey Transit Police are leading the investigation.
