The Stamford Police Department is investigating a pedestrian crash that left a woman in critical condition Friday.

Officials say the crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. near Stillwater Avenue and Progress Drive while the woman was crossing the street.

Officials say the woman was hit by a SUV that was driven by a 28-year-old driver who remained on the scene.

Police say the 78-year-old Stamford resident remains at Stamford Hospital.

She is described as an elderly female who is possibly Hispanic and 5 feet tall. Authorities say she is thin and has curly dark gray hair.
