A Northport woman was arrested after authorities rescued over 200 animals from a hoarding situation at her home, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.
Samantha Boyd was charged with multiple counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. The 57-year-old woman was also charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person after a 95-year-old woman was found on the second floor of the home, confined by debris.
According to investigators, a search warrant was executed on Oct. 1 at the home on Fort Salonga Road following a complaint of possible animal hoarding.
Officials say that more than 200 domestic and wild animals were "living in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions." These animals included roosters, squirrels, ducks, pigeons, rabbits, crows, chickens, flying squirrels, birds, cats, dogs, and other species.

Authorities say the animals were living in cages with piles of waste and filth, unsanitary food and water sources. The interior of the house was also infested with insects, spiders, and other pests.
In addition to animal overcrowding, the house was "extremely cluttered, wall-to-wall with debris, garbage, and household waste."
Boyd’s partner, 61-year-old Neal Weschler, was also charged with animal cruelty.
Authorities say the Town of Huntington was referred violations of building and fire code and it will supervise remediation of the property.
