Here's the skinny - the weather through the weekend and into early next week is expected to be dry and remain cooler than normal.
There is a lot of talk on social media about Tropical Storm Melissa, soon to be a hurricane, slamming the Caribbean and then targeting the East Coast. Unfortunately, the Caribbean is in the crosshairs and devastating flooding is going to happen.
As for the storm making its way up to the tri-state area - that scenario does not happen. The steering winds will grab this tropical beast, drawing it north, but will keep it hundreds of miles from the New Jersey coastline.
There is a weather system that will move across the country and possibly acquire some of that tropical energy and allow a flow of rain back in our direction. This does need to be monitored. Some model guidance suggests a good soaking - which we need, and some newer guidance coming into the weather center suggests that the stormy scenario stays south. We just have to wait and see how this evolves.
Oh, by the way - this weekend is the last of the 6 p.m. sunsets. On Monday, the sun will dip below the horizon at 5:58 p.m. The days are getting shorter, and the nights are getting longer. And the end of daylight saving is on the horizon.
