The city of White Plains is finishing plans to repair the Lexington Grove-East Parking Garage located at 100 Main Street, according to Mayor Justin Brasch.
Lengthy cracks, visible rust and what appears to be more than 6 weight-bearing poles are prominent throughout the garage.
"I have seen cracks. There's cracks on the floor or cracks like on the wall. It does seem very outdated. I have noticed that," said Michelle Chalco, who works in the area and parks in the garage.
A privately owned parking garage partially collapsed at 50 Hale Avenue in White Plains in October.
Later in that same month, the Lexington Grove-West Garage, which is owned by the city, was closed indefinitely after being deemed unsafe. Some floors connect the west side of the garage to the east side.
The city authorized around $2.2 million in December towards rehabilitating the library parking garage, which is located at 100 Martine Avenue, citing that the project involved structural repairs.
Those in the area say they're glad work is being done on the garages, but raised parking concerns going forward.
"Where are people going to park? I know they expect us to use public transportation, but for some people, that's just not viable. So, they definitely need to take into consideration adding parking spaces," said Paul Davis, who works in the area.
Brasch says a consultant is finishing plans to repair the east side of the garage and will commence repairs afterwards.
It was not specified what the repairs are for.
