The Westport Fire Department says Cross Highway between Vineyard and Bayberry Lanes were closed to traffic Monday morning following reports of a gas leak.

Westport police say a construction company working in the area struck a gas line.

They asked residents to avoid the area and had drivers find alternate routes.

They say the roads have since reopened and the area has been deemed safe.
