George Nanos, a 12-year-old from Westport, has spent the last few weekends camped out at the corner of Taylor Lane and Clapboard Hill Road, selling hot cider and hot chocolate for charity, along with Ford, his 8-year-old brother.

"After I had brain surgery, the nurses were really nice to me so, I want to donate to the hospital," George explained.

Almost exactly a year ago, he was at Boston Children's Hospital, getting treatment for a brain tumor.

"It was a really scary moment for me when I found out the news," he remembered. "I didn't want to go and have it done but, it had to be done so, I had to manage my fears."

Luckily, George says those nurses and doctors helped him manage the fears - bringing him games to play with, or sometimes, just talking to him.

"It's hard to be calm in that moment and that situation," said George's father, George Sr. "But it certainly helped to believe and feel like we were surrounded by the most capable people."

After six months and two surgeries, George is now all clear and says he kept thinking that he wanted some way to say thank you to everyone at the hospital.

"He's a pretty kind and caring soul, so it wasn't shocking that he wanted to do something to give back - and do it in a way that's very George, so he's pretty entrepreneurial, and always kind of scheming," said his father. "It obviously left a big impression on him and means a lot."

George is hoping to sell enough hot drinks to raise $1,000, which his parents have promised to match.

Even as the weather gets colder, including rain on Sunday, George and Ford both say it's worth it to power through.

"It's just like special, I don't know how to explain it," said Ford. "I just like spending time with my brother."

The brothers have no plans to stop raising funds any time soon.
