A travel alert for anyone flying in or out of Westchester County Monday. Officials with the county said Westchester County Airport was experiencing significant travel disruptions due to the weather impacting the region.
"I started in Atlanta, Georgia. I'm trying to get here to White Plains. We were derailed mid-air because of the fog here, the weather so we landed in Albany, New York," said Theresa, who is from Georgia.
Westchester County released the following statement:
"Westchester County Airport (HPN) is experiencing significant travel disruptions due to severe weather impacting the region. Approximately 34% of flights have been canceled, and delays are averaging 60 minutes or greater. In addition, five arriving flights have been diverted as a result of weather.
Westchester County is closely monitoring conditions, and working with airline partners to ensure travel disruptions are handled safely and efficiently. If weather conditions persist, disruptions are expected to continue into tomorrow morning, Tuesday, March 17, with additional cancellations and delays possible.
Travelers are strongly encouraged to check directly with their airline carrier for the latest flight status before leaving for the Airport, and Westchester County will continue to provide updates."
On top of the flight disruptions, drivers say the rain and wind Monday evening also created some difficult conditions on the road.
"I had the wipers going really, really fast and I still couldn't see," said West Harrison resident Rich Burton.
Officials are reminding everyone to be mindful and cautious of changing conditions Monday night into Tuesday.
