Waterdrinker Family Farm & Garden is kicking off their Tulip Festival this weekend.
“They’re currently in bloom. It’s so beautiful," said Angelina Pentzel, with Waterdrinker Family Farm & Garden.
Waterdrinker says this is one of their busiest seasons of the year.
"They're all different colors out there, different varieties and if you've never seen tulip fields in person, it's breathtaking," Pentzel said.
The farm expects thousands of visitors during the short bloom window.
“They don't last very long," Pentzel said. "So it's a really special time to come and see them."
The farm planted millions of tulips this year.
Planting begins months before the festival starts.
“Late November, we start planting them so they can go through, the frost underground and then they start coming up early April,” Pentzel said. “We use tractors and it's not by hand, so it is a lot quicker, but still, it it's a couple of weeks' worth of work.”
Visitors can also bring home part of the experience. You can pick tulips and take them home with you for $1 per stem.
For many, the festival marks the start of spring.
“I think it's all colorful, beautiful colors, beautiful pictures and everything," Flushing resident Dorothy Ku said. "Everybody has fun.”
Waterdrinker Family Farm says the next two weeks are the best time to see the tulips at their peak.
