A mid-morning water main break resulted in a road closure in New Rochelle on Monday.
The water main break happened on Stephenson Boulevard and there was a temporary road closure near Palmer Avenue.
Officials tell News 12 the cold weather conditions likely were a factor in the main break.
They say this is the time of the year when they see this happening more frequently.
"The ground as it freezes, is swelling. It's basically squeezing the pipes," says Sophia Salis, who is with Veolia New York.
This is also when officials say they get more calls for pipes bursting inside homes during frigid temperatures.
"Keep the cabinets open so the piping underneath can get some of the ambient warmth of the house and just keep their faucet on a light trickle, that can really help," Salis explains to News 12.
A number of people were without water. Others who live nearby told us their water was discolored briefly.
