A Warren man has been charged with distributing and possessing child sexual abuse material following an investigation prompted by CyberTipline reports, Somerset County authorities said.

Craig Babcock, 33, is charged with distribution of child sexual abuse material, possession of child sexual abuse material and distribution of obscene material to a minor, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors said the investigation began in May after the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force notified the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office of multiple CyberTipline reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Authorities said the reports involved files depicting the sexual abuse or exploitation of a minor that were allegedly shared through a messaging app.

Detectives identified Babcock as being associated with the messaging account, prosecutors said.

On July 29, detectives from the prosecutor's office and the Warren Township Police Department executed a search warrant at Babcock's residence where electronic devices were seized for forensic analysis.

Babcock was arrested at the home, processed and taken to the Somerset County Jail pending a court hearing.
