        WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Frosty concerns overnight across portions of the Hudson Valley. Frost and freeze alerts have been reissued for portions of the region overnight into Friday morning. Across Northern Westchester County and Rockland Counties is a frost advisory. Across Orange, Putnam, Dutchess and Eastern Ulster Counties is a freeze warning. Temperatures won't be as chilly as the past several nights, but it'll still be running cold enough to merit the look out for frost to develop.
A warmup is in sight, and it won't be around for just one day. Starting Friday, temperatures will be getting back to normal levels this time of the year. The average high temperature is 62 degrees, and many locations will be around if not a few degrees warmer than that. But the warmup will continue beyond Friday into the weekend, and even into much of next week.
Temperatures will get into the low to mid-70s Saturday through Thursday. After that, they will cool down into the low to mid-60s, which is normal for this time of year. Bottom line, no more chilly temps are spotted in our 10-day forecast.
Rain chances are at 0% through next weekend and the dry stretch we've been seeing the past several weeks is starting to take its toll on the region. Nearly all of the Hudson Valley is under a 1 out of 5 (abnormally dry) on our scale of dryness. Dry conditions cause trees and vegetation to stress and shed their leaves earlier than normal for this time of the year. Fall foliage colors will be happening quickly and not lasting long into the autumn season at this rate of no showers coming by.
        FALL FOLIAGE COLORS:
        • Westchester: low to moderate
        • Rockland: moderate
        • Putnam: moderate to high
        • Orange: moderate to high
        • Dutchess: moderate to high
        • Ulster: high to peak
TROPICS: There are two systems being monitored by the National Hurricane Center.
There is an area of low pressure trying to become organized in the West Caribbean Sea. It has struggled to do so far. But it has a 30% chance of development in the next 2-7 days. It will bring heavy rain to portions of Central America in a few days, regardless of organized development.
The second system is in the central portion of the Atlantic Ocean. It is unorganized now but will try to become better organized later this week. It is moving to the west-northwest and has a 30-40% chance of development in the next 2-7 days as it heads towards the Leeward and Virgin Islands later this week.
        ASTRO:
Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS (C/2023 A3): Look up toward the western sky around about 45 mins to hour or so after sunset . It will be mostly visible with the naked eye but will look better with either binoculars or a telescope. Give your eyes time to adjust to the faint light of the comet. It will look like a "dirty snowball" with its tail pointing away from the horizon and will be near the planet Venus. The comet will be visible into October 21, where each night it will be a little higher in the sky than the previous one as well as looking a little fainter.
October Full Moon: Hunter's Moon - The third of four supermoons this year (August, September, October, November) rose Wednesday night and peaked Thursday morning. Even though it already peaked, it will still looking very bright tonight and Friday night. Look to the southeastern sky after sunset. It will look its brightest after 1 a.m. It is named the Hunter's Moon because the full October moon typically signaled to hunters to begin the hunting season and prepare for the colder weather ahead.
