Widespread heat sears New Jersey with a preview of summer temperatures

Unsettled weather is lurking upon us. The weekend won't be a washout, but we will have to plan around rain and storms.

Today turned out to be one of the hottest days of 2025 for most, if not all, of New Jersey.
There are widespread 90+-degree temperatures being reported by weather stations across the state. Couple the heat with the humidity, and it feels a bit more burdensome.
Tonight, clouds will continue to collect. We should remain storm-free. A weather system over the Ohio Valley is creeping closer to the state. This will pack a little more "punch" to our Friday afternoon/ evening forecast.
While temperatures on Friday won't be as hot, a few neighborhoods could still reach near 90 degrees. By dinner time, some thunderstorms will be drifting through northern New Jersey skies. Thunder and lightning and wind-driven thunderstorms may develop along and north of Interstate 78.
More rain continues to help eradicate the drought. In fact, for the first time since September, New Jersey is no longer in drought status. Only 20% of South Jersey is abnormally dry.
With more storms this weekend, I would think hearing about the drought in the forecast will no longer be a concern.
