WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Spring is wrapping up soon with summer arriving officially at 10:41 p.m. Friday. But summerlike heat will be building for Thursday, as temps move up into the 80s but feel into the 90s. Portions of Dutchess and Ulster counties are under a heat advisory for Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Temps along those counties' borders could feel into the upper-90s. The heat and humidity will be fueling some potentially strong to severe thunderstorms. The timeframe is roughly 3-9 p.m. The main concerns and threats are damaging wind gusts, but small hail and even isolated tornadoes can't be ruled out.
- Friday, after the cold front passes, will be feeling more comfortable with lowered humidity levels. It will be warm but not hot, unlike Thursday. There will be plenty of friendly skies along the way. Saturday continues the trend from Friday, with temps feeling a bit warmer - but we'll be rain-free. A shower chance comes around Sunday morning, but then the rest of the day is improving, precipitation-wise. Sadly, it will not be improving with temperatures and humidity levels. They will both be moving upward and some spots could be topping around 90 degrees.
- Afterward, the first half of next week WILL BE a sizzling time all across the region! Temps are forecast to get into the mid- to upper-90s, challenging and breaking several daytime record high temps. With the increase in humidity, the temps could feel into the upper-90s to low-100s. If we get three days or more of temps over 90 degrees, there will be an official heat wave declared.
