Family and friends of the football coach who died last week in the crash on the Taconic State Parkway are remembered him. The line for the wake was out the door throughout the afternoon as people come to remember Robert Violante. Family, friends and even students and football players he coached were there all afternoon on Tuesday. The football players were even wearing their uniforms.
State police say Violante's car was hit by a van heading in the opposite direction that veered onto the other side of the parkway.
Officials say he was heading home to northern Westchester when the crash happened. Violante was a high school football and track coach at the Bergenfield School District, known as “Coach V.” People who knew him say he will really be missed and had a big impact on everyone he met. "We are trying to do is show massive support to the family, for the staff members at the high school and the students that were affected greatly by it," says Irene Ramos, a parent whose son plays football in Bergenfield.
"Our players, they're going to miss him so much and he put so much time and energy into those students. He put everyone, he made them feel so special," says Christopher Tully, Superintendent of the Bergenfield Public School District.
