        Wake held for NYPD recruit who died days before hitting the streets

        Edgar Ordonez was a police recruit who died last Wednesday at Rodman's Neck. He was set to graduate Monday to hit the city streets as one of the newest police recruits.

        St. Anselm's Church was filled with NYPD recruits and officers paying their respect to Edgar Ordonez.
        Edgar Ordonez was a police recruit who died last Wednesday at Rodman's Neck. He was set to graduate Monday to hit the city streets as one of the newest police recruits.
        His family spoke to News 12 crews on scene, and they say he grew up in the Melrose area. News 12 was also told he leaves behind a pair of twins, a daughter and a son. The family also says he was always making jokes, smiling and excited to become an NYPD officer.
        His funeral will be held on Thursday.
