And there were plenty of key takeaway moments from the night and joining us now to help break down the mall Democrat and former Nassau County Executive. Laura Curran. Laura, thanks for joining us early in the studio this morning. Good morning. Obviously watching the debate, a lot of things were kind of laid out there. What did you think about it? Well, first of all, I'm impressed with you because you're up late at night and here you are again in another purple top. Uh I thought, you know, I thought you did a great job. I think this is such an, an important public service that News 12 does. Um I thought that there's something about hiring friends and family that people really don't like. Taxes are high if you're hiring, you know, this one and that one and who's brother and girlfriend and fiance and this and that people are like, why am I subsidizing a jobs program for politicians? It's supposed to be about the people. And so I think Laura did a really good job in pointing that out. I think that is something that will resonate with voters and this is gonna be a very tight race right now. It's really all about turnout who can get out their voters and then maybe persuade a few folks in the middle to come their way. Um I thought both kind of tacked to the middle. I thought that was strategically very smart for both of them. Um It seemed to me just in terms of style, Laura was cool, calm and collected. I felt that Anthony was sort of rattled and, you know, he seemed a little shaken by some of the questions on this post article about former supervisor Gillen. You were the county executive at the time. Did she try to influence you in any way about where that contract should go? No, there was really none of that. And we had a ton of people on that committee from all kinds of stakeholders, from school districts, politics, business, you know, you name it. Uh and it was a very vibrant process. She was part of it, but absolutely had no say, ok, we heard it there. Laura, thanks so much for joining us and weighing in again, important for Long Islanders to understand who they're voting for and the subjects that they're voting for. Very important. Thank you. Plenty of key takeaway moments from the night and joining us now to help break it all down this morning is Hofstra's Executive Dean of Suburban Studies Larry Levy. Larry, thanks for joining us this morning. Of course, you watched the debate. What were your takeaways? Well, for all the back and forth about, uh, uh, mistresses and, uh, politically steered contracts. What really struck me was how relatively calm it was. Anthea de esposito got a little hotter than she did. Uh, and how much they actually agreed on. Um, you know, this is like, like a lot of the competitive districts around the country is a moderate suburban swing district and the, uh, preponderance of voters, the ones who are gonna make a difference are people who are in the middle and both of them went out of their way to whatever extent they succeeded or not. You know, the viewers would have to decide, but they went out of their way to stress bipartisanship. Uh Both of them mentioned how they have worked across the aisle. Uh, uh, you know, the, their opponents challenged that assertion, but both of them said, hey, I'm bipartisan. I'm gonna work with Republicans to work with Democrats. And that's was uh kind of surprising and tells you that both candidates are aware of who's going to decide this election. I mean, some, some of the things they, they, they agreed on, I mean, was, uh uh they dis they both distance themselves directly and indirectly from the top of the ticket. Uh They both support restoring salt. They both oppose congestion pricing. They both support downtown hous housing. I was surprised that the esposito went as far. Uh you know, with the details of saying, let's put apartments above stores. It's not something Republicans have always supported. And Laura Gill, Laura Gillen went out of her way to show uh uh uh a very tough face on immigration, which is obviously an issue that's hurting democrats. All right, Larry, thank you so much.
