A scary road rage incident outside a playground on Pelham Parkway has parents on edge.
News 12 spoke with a father who witnessed the entire incident.
“His face started to swell up, like he had one eye half open and the other wide open,” he said.
The Pelham Parkway dad says he was walking home with his son past the playground when he saw two drivers cut each other off.
He said there was yelling and screaming, but then things turned violent.
The man said one of the drivers got out and punched the other man through the window.
The father asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons.
“One thing led to another. He just started swinging — mid-sentence, he didn’t even finish his word. He just swung at the guy, kept hitting him, opened his door, and it looked like a straight-up MMA fight. The guy was defenseless because he was buckled in,” he said.
He says the incident happened Thursday around 5:30 p.m. near Bronx Park East and Boston Road. After the man hit the driver, he continued beating him in the middle of rush-hour traffic. The victim’s girlfriend intervened, and the attacker then took off.
“It happens all the time. The traffic is really bad here. With the heat and traffic, it’s just a bad combo for road rage,” the father said.
When asked how it felt to witness the attack, he said, “I live in New York City, so you see this all the time. It always catches you by surprise when you see it live like that. You just can’t help but look.”
He says this isn’t the first time he’s witnessed something like this on the road.
“This whole area leading toward Pelham Parkway has always been so bad. They really need to have traffic officers here or evaluate the traffic pattern,” he said.
