More than 100 people gathered at Eisenhower Park this morning to show their support for veterans in the community.

The second annual Veterans Valor Food Drive and Walk took place around Salisbury Lake, bringing together community members and veterans for a morning focused on giving back.

Attendees were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to help stock the Nassau County Veterans Food Pantry, which provides food assistance to local veterans in need.

“The more food we get, the more people I can feed because every day the numbers are getting higher and higher,” said Ralph Esposito, director of the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency. “We want to make sure our vets are taken care of. They served this great country and we have to make sure they get served back.”

Esposito says the food pantry currently serves about 60 veterans every day.

The pantry is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is located at 2201 Hempstead Turnpike in the Q building.
