Long Islanders have an opportunity to help people affected by the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela by donating essential supplies at collection drives taking place today.
The back-to-back earthquakes have left at least 920 people dead and more than 51,000 people missing, creating an urgent need for humanitarian assistance.
Volunteers are asking the community to donate non-perishable food, bottled water, diapers, hygiene products, clothing, and other essential items for families impacted by the disaster.
"They don't have food. They don't have shoes. They don't have clothes. They have nothing there," volunteer Maribel Beraun said. "In order to help them, we have to at least do what we can."
Donations can be dropped off today at the following Long Island locations:
  • Eat-Cetera Deli Cafe in Bohemia
  • Make the Road New York in Brentwood
  • Cachapas Long Island in East Meadow
Organizers say every donation, no matter the size, will help provide relief to those affected by the earthquakes.
