Strong winds from recent storms caused part of a vacant home in Yonkers to collapse, raising new safety concerns for neighbors.
The unoccupied house on Belknap Avenue could not withstand gusts that swept through the area over the last 24 hours.
Residents say they heard a loud cracking sound during the storm and later found debris from the home’s roof scattered across the street.
Neighbors say the property has been vacant for several years and has long been a concern in the community. They describe it as more than just an eyesore, calling it a potential danger that has now become a reality.
One neighbor says he was inside his home when the storm intensified and heard what sounded like a thunderous crash. Looking outside, he could see part of the structure had given way, with debris blown into the roadway.
He said he hopes the collapse pushes officials to act before someone gets hurt. No injuries were reported.
