A 51-year-old Ulster County Jail inmate faces charges after allegedly assaulting and attempting to stab a corrections officer.
On Aug. 20, the inmate left his cell and approached the officer's desk, destroying computers and electronics. He then used a sharp piece of wood to try and stab the officer multiple times.
A Sheriff's Emergency Response Team member intervened, and the officer was treated for physical injuries at Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley.
The inmate was indicted for attempted assault, assault, and criminal mischief. He was arraigned in Ulster County Court earlier this month.
He remains in Ulster County Jail pending further court proceedings.
