Two Yonkers men are facing charges after police say they were caught trying to steal used cooking oil from businesses in Enfield, Connecticut.
Police say officers were alerted when a white box truck linked to a previous cooking oil theft at a local restaurant was seen in the area.
Investigators located the truck at a shopping plaza, where they allege 26-year-old Leonel Ramirez-Savinon and 29-year-old Jeyson Santiago were attempting to steal the cooking oil from different businesses.
Authorities conducted a traffic stop and arrested both men.
The truck was seized, and officers say they found a large liquid storage tank, buckets, hoses and masks inside. Police also recovered approximately $10,000 in cash.
Investigators believe the vehicle may be connected to a series of cooking oil thefts along the Interstate 91 corridor.
"Used cooking oil has value, and its theft can have a significant impact on local businesses through lost revenue, property damage and cleanup costs," Enfield police said.
