Two of Nassau County's “top cops” were honored Monday for their quick-thinking actions that helped save a life.

As News 12 previously reported, off-duty Sgt. Frederick Tifaro and Police Officer Brian Sujka sprang into action when a referee collapsed during a high school soccer game last month in Smithtown.

The officers immediately performed CPR and used an AED, helping save the referee's life.

The two officers were recognized during a ceremony in Mineola as part of Nassau County's Top Cop program.

Both received citations for their lifesaving efforts.
