Two firefighters injured battling Saturday evening blaze in Ridgefield Park
A multi-agency response was required Saturday evening after a structure fire broke out on 7th Street, leaving two firefighters with minor injuries.
The Ridgefield Park Fire Department was dispatched to 96 7th St. at 6:47 p.m. following reports of a fire at the residence. Assistant Chief Zardoya arrived on the scene minutes later and confirmed visible flames and smoke coming from the structure. By 6:51 p.m., a working fire assignment was transmitted, and a second alarm was eventually called to provide firehouse coverage for the rest of the village.
Ridgefield Park crews launched an aggressive attack on the flames while simultaneously conducting primary searches on every floor. They were supported by units from Hackensack, Teaneck and Bogota, which assisted with the fire attack and the extensive overhaul process.
While all occupants of the building escaped without injury, two firefighters were transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained during the operation.
The scene saw a large influx of mutual aid, with departments from Englewood, Little Ferry and Leonia assisting alongside the Ridgefield Park Police Department and multiple medical and rehabilitation units.
The exact cause of the blaze remains unknown and is under investigation by the Ridgefield Park Bureau of Fire Prevention.
