Former President Donald Trump's mention of an internet rumor about Haitian immigrants in Ohio stealing pets and eating them during Tuesday night's debate caused quite a stir among Haitian Americans on Long Island.
The claim was quickly debunked as the city manager in Springfield, Ohio told ABC News there were no credible reports of anything like that happening.
Assembly Member Michaelle Solages (D-Elmont) says the mention was "unacceptable" and she worries about anti-immigrant violence.
Meanwhile, many Haitian Americans in Elmont say they plan to make their voices heard about this at the ballot box this November.
