Truck slams into Bronx day care
A box truck crashed into the first floor of a residential building on Jackson Avenue near Pontiac Place on Monday afternoon.
The building's superintendent was inside on the second floor when he felt the building shake.
"I was sweeping the second floor when the building started shaking, I heard the bang, I ran out, I was scared I thought the building was going to fall," said Hector Roman, the buildings superintendent.
Roman says a new day care was preparing to open on the first floor of the building where the truck rammed into. No one was inside the unit at the time.
According to multiple witnesses, the box truck operated by Lion Hauling LLC. was making a delivery at a nearby construction site when the driver got out of the vehicle, the truck then jerked forward into the building. A second employee was outside of the truck and narrowly missed being hit.
"He was training the driver, when he got out to get a signature from the construction workers, he almost got ran over by the truck too," said Clint Jackson, who witnessed the crash.
The Department of Buildings is currently on site investigating.
