Two people were injured and traffic was backed up for hours after a tractor-trailer carrying produce overturned and burst into flames on I-80 early Monday morning.
The crash happened around 3:45 a.m. in Denville, according to New Jersey State Police.
"Based on a preliminary investigation, a tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound when the driver lost directional control, veered off the roadway to the left, struck the center median and overturned over the median onto the westbound lanes," police said in a statement.
Police said a Hyundai sedan traveling in the westbound lanes then hit the tractor-trailer, causing the truck to burst into flames.
The drivers of both vehicles suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
The crash initially prompted first responders to close all lanes of the interstate, leading to extensive delays that cleared later in the morning.
State police said the crash remains under investigation.
