State police say more than 200 vehicles are off the streets after a ghost plates crackdown.

It’s part of an effort to stop drivers from avoiding tolls with fake license plates.

State police have been trying to address those using hidden, altered or missing plates in order to not pay Thruway tolls.

Officials say almost 300 tickets were issued for license plate violations on the Mario Cuomo Bridge during enforcement efforts in March and May.
