A Trinitarios gang member who killed a man during a botched robbery was sentenced to life in prison, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York said Monday.
Prosecutors say that in 2021, Ramon Rodriguez, along with associates of the Shooting Boys, an offshoot of the gang, committed a robbery outside a Bronx nightclub. During that incident, Rodriguez shot a man in the leg.
Eight days later, Rodriguez and the Shooting Boys committed another robbery outside of a Manhattan nightclub, in which they targeted the victim, Milton Grant, for his watch.
During the robbery, Rodriguez fatally shot Grant in the head and stole his watch. As Grant's friend ran away, Rodriguez also shot him, attempting to kill him.
Following his arrest and detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, Rodriguez continued to participate in the Shooting Boys gang, including by repeatedly possessing weapons.
In 2023, he and other members of the Shooting Boys ambushed, stabbed and slashed an inmate who the gang believed was cooperating with law enforcement.
Prosecutors say Rodriguez was sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years in prison for Grant's murder, the attempted murder of Grant’s friend, related offenses and a separate concurrent term of 10 years for the prison assault, to which he pleaded guilty.
