A tractor-trailer fire on the southbound New York State Thruway before the Mario Cuomo Bridge in Nyack has snarled traffic near Exit 11.

The fire involved a large Costco 18‑wheeler around 3:30 a.m. The truck driver escaped without injury. It took some time for firefighters to put the blaze out because flames kept reigniting.

The right is till closed as emergency crews work at the scene. Crews are offloading the contents of the truck and have brought in a large tow truck to remove the rig.

Earlier, traffic heading toward the bridge was nearly stopped as backups grew in dense fog that made it difficult for drivers to see. Many cars moved with hazard lights on as they approached the shutdown.

Northbound traffic is moving but slow as drivers pass the scene.
