Multiple businesses in Toms River that were closed due to a fire on Wednesday still haven't been able to reopen.
The fire took place in a building that houses about a dozen businesses including Stop & Shop, Dollar Tree, UPS, Buy Rite Liquors and an urgent care center.
Fire officials didn't say which business it happened in, and it's not visible from the outside. But they say late Wednesday morning, around 11:30 a.m., smoke was seen coming from a pump near the rear of the building.
Stores are closed until further notice.
The Fire Prevention Bureau said the fire was due to a mechanical failure and has been ruled accidental.
However, because fire alarm and suppression systems were damaged, the building department deemed the businesses "unsafe to occupy."
