It looks like Tom King Jr is just walking in. He is just walking into the watch party. The crowd is cheering. I mean, not two minutes ago, we got a five minute warning but he is now here. I'm going to go ahead and let you all take a listen. Thank you. Thank you for the incredible trust that you place in me to continue representing this district tonight. We celebrate not just a victory but our commitment to the hard work ahead. And I would like to thank my opponent, Sue Altman for running a spirited race. Ok? No, thank you. Also. Thank you. Also to my incredible wife, Rhonda and a wonderful dog and, and do our daughters Elizabeth and MEREDITH. You, you. Mhm Thank you. All right, your love and your support have been my foundation. My family has been my rock and I am grateful for their strength. I'd also like to thank my father, Tom Kane senior to me, my twin brother Reed. See and also because everybody knows them as team Kane. I'd like to thank Harrison and Dan and Kian and, and Brian and, and Maddie and Addison and Teresa Isabella JJ Luke and Owen. Hey, thank you. Thank you to my dedicated campaign team and to my official staff, your hard work, your grit and your passion made tonight possible. I couldn't be more grateful for your commitment to the people of this district. We must address inflation and we must make life more affordable for the families by cutting wasteful government spending and securing American energy independence. This will help drive down prices, it will create jobs and it will strengthen our nation's resilience and we need to support our police officers who risk their lives daily. We need to secure our southern border. We need to stop the illegal drug flows, flows and combat human trapping that's impacting communities nationwide and we need to stand with our allies, Israel, Ukraine and so many others that is essential for the future of this world. America must continue to lead as a beacon of freedom and of democracy worldwide. Tonight is a milestone but our work together is just beginning together. We will bring a stronger and safer and more prosperous future. Thank you for your trust. Thank you for your hard work and believing in the values that make our country great. God bless you. You guys, you guys are gonna make me cry. Thank you. Thank you everybody for being here tonight. Um What a journey it has been. I am so beyond extraordinarily humbled and grateful for all each and every one of you, all of you. This district has been through hell. I was just down in the bridal suite with the former congressman Malinowski and, and we were just reflecting on the incredible energy and perseverance of this district since 2016. Folks from Westfield, 2020 Marcy was up here earlier, recalling those days back in 2016. And how so many of us launched into politics, whether we liked it or not back then and what a journey it has been. We found friends, we found community, we found sense of purpose, we found heartbreak. It's like life in a box. We are living through a deeply difficult, stressful, extraordinary time. We've had to reach deep in and really find what we're made of over and over again from the time Trump announced his candidacy in 2015 or 2016 when he won then and again in the pandemic in the midterm races and the roller coaster of this packed election cycle. It has been an extremely stressful, an exhausting time to be alive and a stressful time to be a caring, thoughtful person who loves this country. It is a heartbreaking place. The United States sometimes. And we were with Senator Booker recently and he had this amazing line which I'll probably butcher, but it was something along the lines of if America hasn't broken your heart, then you don't love her enough. And I think all of us have had our hearts broken in our own ways by this wonderful, beautiful country, this indecisive country, this divisive country, this polarized country, this country with its deeply flawed history, with its racism, with its sexism, but also with its incredible hope. It's beacon for others around the world. It's diversity that is the envy of everywhere else. All of this bundle of contradiction exists in this wonderful country. Walt Whitman, New Jersey's poet in the Leaves of Grass was describing himself when he said I am large and I contain multitudes. But he's very well could have been speaking because we do contain contradictions and multitudes. And so in the midst of this moment NJ seven has been a battleground over and over again and we have not despaired. We have not given up. We have not backed down from the challenge when Tom lost the last time. We, it hurt. It was sad. It was frustrating, but we got back up off the mat and we mounted an incredible challenge in this race. One that we should be deeply proud of. We did and it really, really wasn't about me. I happened to be the candidate and I was happy to do the work and we worked very hard and I have, I think the most incredible staff of anywhere in the entire country. Our organizing, our fundraising, our campaign overall, our communications was second to none. Truly, we knocked over 100 and 3000 doors on this campaign and that is you. We made almost 300,000 phone calls. We have over 41,000 unique donors. That's crazy. We out hustled Kane. We out raised Cain, we out blood sweat and tears, Kane and we did hold him accountable. There is at this moment they are sweating the apple sauce and it was a rough night. It has been and it's not all done yet. And I still wanna see there's some results out there that I still wanna see from Somerset before we fully concede this race, but it's also late and I don't wanna keep you all waiting, but we, we really, we really worked hard and it wasn't just about me, it was about all of us and it was a passing of the torch of the grassroots and the labor community and the democratic organizations in this district which shook off the dust, got back out in the field and played hard for another game. And that is courage. That is the inner workings of democracy. That is the heart and determination that I know will lead this country back to its right path, even if that path is circuitous and indirect and difficult and bumpy at times, which it is right now. And most importantly, this movement, the movement that sprung up after the Trump election has done incredible things in New Jersey. We have turned a page in New Jersey because it's not business as usual in New Jersey anymore. We elected Andy Kim tonight, which is an incredible achievement, especially given what we know about how primaries had for 200 years been conducted in New Jersey. And it was the movement that cropped up after the Trump election that created enough political pressure that helped put into motion, the litigation that working families chaired that eventually landed Andy Kim with a lawsuit which changed New Jersey forever and that belongs to the movement, the same movement that's here today. We have a US senator who's been indicted. One that's been charged. We have held politically powerful people accountable in ways that have never happened in New Jersey history and all of these things are hard and difficult. I'm so sorry, sue Altman there. Speaking to her supporters, she made it clear she's not conceding. She says she first wants to see results coming out of Somerset County. The mass says she's pretty much done but uh she wants to wait at this point.
