Ocean County temperatures in the 60s here and off just to the south of Ocean County we do have that storm setting up. There is some lightning and thunder associated with it too. It is headed due north, OK, at 40 MPH. So within about 20 minutes' time it's going to be reaching the southern areas of Ocean County and then by Toms River it's going to take about 40 minutes to get there again headed due north, take the next 2 hours to pass by the entire state of New Jersey, and then you. You might be surprised to see that the air behind that squall might actually be drying up a bit. You might get a teaser of some sunshine behind that squall. You can see that dry air is being detected by the upper upper atmosphere. The satellite picture showing you some dry air kind of intruding its way in behind that squall that we're going to be watching for as you go throughout this afternoon. Now it's not just about the rain, it's about the wind, and the wind is picking up as you can tell by the camera here in. City, it is shaking. Of course we've got a lot of the rain coming down with the wind too. The heavier the rain, the stronger the wind. Onshore flow around 15 to 25 MPH and some gusts at the coast easily, easily up to 40 to 45 MPH. There could be a 50 mile per hour gust on the beach fronts and the waterfronts. So it's very important to just be careful for today. The wind continues tonight and tomorrow, but not from the east southeast, from the west northwest. So it is going to be a very windy, windy Halloween. So I just want you to keep that in mind. For the rest of today, temperatures should stay in the low 60s for falling tonight. And speaking of the winds, there's also going to be an element of coastal flooding that's going to be taking place in Barnet Bay. So we're going to go over to Jim Murdoch now. He's in Tuckerton Beach. Tuckerton Beach, Jim saw a lot of the flooding with the last nor'easter. What's the situation looking like right now? Thank you Mike. Yeah, we had major flood stage here a couple of weeks ago during that nor Easter. I wanted to come back to this neighborhood. The people here are used to this type of flooding. This is Little Lake Harbor Boulevard, and about a half hour ago there was some pavement left. The water is now coming in from the Barnicot Bay through that protective salt marsh and now coming into the Tuckerton Beach neighborhood. I've got some pretty high waders on, so I'm going to walk over to this gentleman here. A neighbor who has been through many of these types of weather events here and as we walk over here I saw you guys moving your cars out of the way. I'll turn around so we can face the camera here. First of all, what's your name? My name is Ted Maxwell. Ted, this is something that you guys are used to on a full moon when the winds are coming out off the bay, but the last couple of weeks have been trying times here. It's been a tough year. It's been in the springtime too, ever since we went to the. I don't know which one it is. It's, it's coming from the west and that's why the hurricanes are all going offshore, but when they're all going offshore, it creates this mess which gives us high winds, which is nice because we're only getting 40 mile an hour winds in a low of 60 or 70 if it was a hurricane. So it's it's the lesser of the evils, let's put it that way. Now one of your neighbors told me we just passed low tide and I've seen this water rise in a hurry. So if you're not used to this, it will take a lot of people off guard. You have to get your cars out of here. I know they parked them over by the marina, the old rush. Things like that, but high tide here is at 4:30. We're looking at a solid minor to perhaps moderate flood stage once again here. Yeah, it's going to go, it's going to come all the way up to the, all the way up to the house when it comes down to, and, uh, we'll have about 18 inches of water in the street, but it's only, it's normal. It's what happens is after we have the 2nd or 3rd high tide with the 20 mile an hour winds or more is when the tides can't go out and they just hang in here and that's what you're used to. You can see just how high this water has now come up here in the middle of. Lake Harbor Boulevard. So this is what you can expect along the Barnet Bay. We're talking about the western shores of Barnegate Bay Island, the eastern shores of the mainland against Barnegat Bay. And for more on conditions in Northern Ocean County, we have News 12 New Jersey's Tony Caputo, who was out in Thunderbolt 12 this afternoon. Tony, it's flooding down here. How's it looking in your neck of the woods? There was some minor flooding in Toms River. More on that in a moment. We're on 35 North in the Mantaloking Bayhead area right at Lyman Street, and I asked photojournalist Rudy Bo to pull over because of the wind. Look at the sign and look at the stop lights and the way the wind is just. them around today, these wind gusts mean business. The rain has been off and on, but it's the wind that's the concern. And in Tom's River along the Barnegat Bay, the wind, well, it was blowing hard enough to blow the cap right off a photojournalist's head. Ah. Take a look at this clip this morning in Tom's River. The winds were howling enough to blow the cap right off a photojournalist's head. That's Rudy Bode's Thunderbolt 12 cap going right into the minor flooding along Garry Road next to the Barnet Bay. I'm laughing now and I was laughing this morning too. Uh, That's a shame. Fortunately we could laugh since the storm only produced minor flooding near Bay Shore Drive, but it did throw the camera's rain gear into a tizzy as well. Yeah, I mean the street usually floods a little bit. It kind of rains and storms. It's not ideal. I mean, sleeping is probably the hardest thing, but you know, other than that, whatever, little weather won't kill anybody. Looking at the Barnett Bay just off the roadway, you might think it was much worse, but fortunately that wasn't the case. This is just a normal nuisance for you, something like that, yes, it happens all the time. Does it ever get worse than what we're seeing here? I don't get concerned because it's never gotten worse, and I've been here for 7 years. Yeah, you probably gonna have to go back to Sandy for, uh, worse flooding than what we're seeing today, but again, the gusty winds can certainly get the best of you. We are taking a look at Jersey City this afternoon. The rain and wind picking up as the day has gone on, just nasty weather outside, so do be careful. News 12's Lauren D on Route One in Edison. Lauren, how are conditions out there, although we see and hear it. Yeah, it's not fun to be outside when you're standing in the rain, but it's coming in waves. OK, we're going to have a car drive by us now, but it's coming in waves. So at times there's a steady rain, a light rain, and then a heavy rain right now I would say this is about a steady rain coming through. You can see the cars driving if you've been on the roads, you know you're going to have to deal with the spray coming up from the cars from the tires in front of you, even the. trucks as they go by and you know hopefully you cleaned out your gutters because we're actually right in the shop parking lot and look at this their gutter system look at the water just rushing out of there so everyone cleared up the leaves out of their gutters yesterday. Take a look at the parking lot though you can see people had to push their carts into the shop. a lot of people without rain jackets just running in with the baseball cap, a sweatshirt, of course you have the trunk opening up and you got to wait for that open loading your groceries, windshield wipers on some cars going in full blast the wind swept rain out here and, but you know we spoke to some shoppers who had mixed opinions about the weather. I love the rain. Why? Because I like it. It makes everything grow. Look at all the flowers. It's not a lot of fun to be honest with you, uh, but I figured, uh, gotta get a little food for me. Got to get a little stuff for my little puppy I adopted, so but uh but I didn't get the bag like a dummy. I should have just got the bag, but, uh, since then I'm just carrying everything in my pockets. You know, we've all been there when you forget the bag when you walk in the grocery stores. So just be careful when you're running your errands today. This is a rainy, chilly, windy day for you on this Thursday. We are in Edison, Lauren, New, New Jersey.
