We are finally getting that first bit of rain that we have so desperately needed! News 12 New Jersey spent the morning in Thunderbolt 12, heading southbound on the way to the Manasquan Reservoir.
Today's rain is the first we’ve encountered in over 41 days. After a long period of such dry weather, all of the oil and debris that accumulated on the roads makes even a very light rain very slippery. The reason for that is because it doesn’t penetrate through the oils, and instead becomes a film on top.
We have been dealing with a drought for over a month long now in NJ and there have been record low water levels at the reservoir in Monmouth County. It's been noticeable to all who walk and spend time fishing there. This is all due to a very hot summer and a very dry fall season so far.
