A third child has died following an apartment building fire on Bainbridge Avenue in Fordham last week, family members confirmed.
Six‑year‑old Oseas Parks, who was critically injured in the May 12 blaze at 2609 Bainbridge Ave., succumbed to his injuries days after the deaths of his younger brother Liam, 1, and his twin sister Isis. The FDNY says all three children suffered severe smoke‑inhalation injuries.
Family sources say the children’s mother had briefly stepped outside to pick up another child from a school bus. When she tried to return, the smoke inside the building was already too thick to get through.
Firefighters raced into the burning building, pulling the children out and rushing them to the hospital. But one by one, the family received the worst possible news.
A growing memorial now lines Bainbridge Avenue as the community grieves the loss of the three young siblings. Candles, tiaras, flowers, and toys have been placed along the sidewalk as neighbors rally around the heartbroken family.
Even in tragedy, the family is choosing to honor Osias as a hero. According to LiveOnNY, the 6‑year‑old became an organ donor, saving the lives of three people through the donation of four organs. Two recipients are from New York, and another is from out of state.
Eight people in total were injured in the fire, including two adults and three firefighters. Dozens of residents have been displaced after the building was determined to be uninhabitable.
