A record-breaking number of travelers is expected to hit the roads this Thanksgiving. AAA predicts over 80 million people will travel 50 miles or more.
Of those, 71.7 million will travel by car, surpassing pre-pandemic numbers and representing a 1.3 million increase from last year.
While roads are expected to be congested, particularly between 1 p.m.-5 p.m. today, drivers can take comfort in lower gas prices, with the national average currently at $3.07, down from $3.26 last year.
In Westchester and Rockland counties, gas prices average $3.33.
Travel experts warn that Monday will also be a challenging travel day, with peak congestion expected between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
