A Texas man has been sentenced in connection with a fatal head-on crash on Route 206 that claimed the life of a 22-year-old Hopatcong woman earlier this year.

A Superior Court judge sentenced Cody Bonds, 39, of Crandall, Texas, on Sept. 11 to five years of probation, 100 hours of community service and a five-year driver’s license suspension. Bonds was also credited with 17 days served in jail.

The sentencing follows Bonds’ June 26 guilty plea to third-degree reckless vehicular homicide and a traffic summons for failure to maintain a lane.

Emergency crews responded to Route 206 in the Flanders section of Mount Olive at about 2:51 p.m. on Feb. 3 following a two-vehicle collision involving a 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 2024 Toyota Corolla.

Investigators determined Bonds was traveling northbound when his Tahoe crossed the double yellow centerline into oncoming traffic, striking the southbound Corolla driven by 22-year-old Jamie Lynn Augenbaugh head-on.

Both drivers were taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. Augenbaugh succumbed to her injuries five days later, on Feb. 8.

Bonds was charged by law enforcement on Feb. 24 following an investigation by the Mount Olive Police Department.
