Yorktown police say a 15-year-old from Yorktown has been arrested in connection with graffiti at Patriot Skate Park and Jack A. Devito Memorial Park.
Police say the arrest was made just days after the incidents.
Yorktown police say the 15-year-old boy that allegedly spray-painted the graffiti is charged with hate crime and criminal mischief in the second degree, two counts of making graffiti and criminal mischief in the third degree.
According to police, the Yorktown Police Department received a report on May 11 of an incident that occurred at Patriot Skate Park during the overnight hours.
Officials located graffiti in the park, which included racial slurs, homophobic and antisemitic graffiti.
A second call was also received of graffiti located on the track at the Jack A. Devito Memorial Park.
Yorktown police say the total damage to the town-owned properties is $2,300.
Employees from the Yorktown Parks and Recreation Department immediately covered up the graffiti at each scene.
Yorktown police say the teenager was arrested on Thursday.
"We were operating with very little to go on and within one week's time, we closed this case, made a very good arrest," says Chief Robert Noble, with the Yorktown Police Department.
Yorktown police say the teenager was processed on the Juvenile Delinquency Charge and is due to appear at the Westchester County Department of Probation next month.
