The 39th annual Swim Across the Sound is moving the entire event to the Connecticut shoreline.
The swim previously started at a marina in Port Jefferson, New York. However, that marina was damaged by bad weather over the winter.
The new 15.5-mile route will now start at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, pass by Jennings Beach in Fairfield and finish at Black Rock Harbor in Bridgeport, followed by a celebration at Captain's Cove.
"It's going to be a blast to be able to watch the swimmers leave from the beach where we'll have a much better view this year of the start than is typical than leaving from the Port Jeff side and the City of Bridgeport has been extremely supportive of this change," said Bill Jennings, SVP, Hartford HealthCare, president, Fairfield region.
The event raises money for cancer patients and their families.
The swim is Aug. 1 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information or to donate to a swimmer or team, click
